Repsol Honda rider Dani Pedrosa finishes second in both practice sessions at Laguna Seca – MotoGP
Repsol Honda team rider Dani Pedrosa came second in both free practice sessions held at the Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca for the Red Bull U.S. Grand Prix.
Dani Pedrosa said, “The second session in the afternoon was pretty interesting, we made some changes on the bike and tried the race tyre, looking to set up the bike to absorb the bumps of which there are many in this track and they especially affect the
front.”
Recalling the first free practice session, Pedrosa was following his teammate Casey Stoner with 0.102 seconds apart. The final time sheet of FP1 recorded Stoner, Pedrosa and Jorge Lorenzo on top three places respectively.
The Spaniard’s best lap time in first practice session was 1:22.402 seconds and later in the second practice session, he was down to 1:22.197 seconds with a top speed of 263.2 Km/h.
In the second free practice session, he improved his lap times by a couple of tenths but still was facing lack of grip with different selection of tyres. The morning session was conducted with softer compounds which provided better grip and feel from the
tarmac.
Pedrosa further said, “The grip was a little poor today and it was also very windy out there, so we haven't yet found the perfect ride. In the morning we tried the softer compound and it had a little more grip, and in the afternoon, with the race tyre, it
was more difficult to find grip.”
However, it is said that track conditions were also unfavourable to show improvements that also slowed the process to sort out the race package. He also complained about the bumpy surface of the circuit which roughened the ride especially affecting the front
end.
The Repsol Honda trio was found in line behind the FP2 leader, Jorge Lorenzo, but all the three teammates sustained and improved their lap times.
The Repsol team will continue its works to improve the race settings for a strong qualifying session.
