Repsol Honda rider Dani Pedrosa struggling to recover – MotoGP news
Dani Pedrosa felt reviving pain in his shoulder, especially at the season opener event at Losail Qatar, when he felt numbness in his left arm and was not able to use the clutch.
It affected his finish in the first race of the season, and got a final place at the podium.
Although he and his new teammate Casey Stoner dominated throughout the winter test sessions with their new 2011 RC212V, but Dani Pedrosa was not able to snatch a race victory.
“It’s never nice to have an operation, but we've had a lot of time searching for an answer to the effects of this injury and I’m relaxed because I finally know what has happened,” Dani Pedrosa said in a press meeting last Thursday before the race at
Jerez. This pain has been haunting him approximately for last six months.
The injury to his collarbone happened in a free practice session last October at the Motegi circuit. Thereafter Pedrosa was immediately given a surgery to plate his collarbone and in a result he was forced to miss three consecutive races of Japan,
Malaysia and Australia in a sequence. After two weeks of his surgery, Pedrosa tried to race at Philip Island, but the pain conquered his strength and after two sessions it was clear that he has not recovered enough.
Dani Pedrosa returned to the track to race in final two rounds of the 2010 season, Estoril being the second last race of the season on October 31. During that weekend, he felt numbness and loss of sensation in his hand. This same problem was seen at
the season’s finals round of Valencia, continuing into the post season testing session at the same circuit.
By the mid of November Pedrosa went under a series of test and checkups at the Clinica Dexeus in Barcelona, followed by a surgery. Pedrosa was strictly prescribed to have a four-week rest for a complete recovery to start his physiotherapy. Until January,
Pedrosa was not given any physical exercise until his doctors allowed it.
Pedrosa’s recovery was going well and felt good as he was shining during the mid-season test sessions, especially at Sepang II test session he was dominating the time charts. But the Qatar race was a different experience for him due to lack of sensation
and strength by the last laps of Grand Prix. After the race, it was announced that Pedrosa will be undergoing a final surgery to solve the sensation issue of his arm.
Despite of his lack of strength in his arm Pedrosa managed to perform well and claim the second podium place at the Gran Premio bwin De Espana. After the crash of Rossi who destroyed Stoner’s winning chances too, Pedrosa ran a good race to save the
Repsol name.
