Repsol Honda rider Dani Pedrosa takes first row start at Laguna Seca – MotoGP news
Repsol Honda team rider Dani Pedrosa took the third position to start the Red Bull U.S. Grand Prix at the Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca, California.
Pedrosa said, “We couldn't improve as much as I'd like to in the final part of the practice, we tried some different settings and unfortunately we didn't find a good one, but to start from the front row is always important and here we are again.”
Dani was running strong in the practice sessions but the tricky and narrow track was tough to reduce lap times. Especially the corkscrew is very demanding on the driver’s concentration.
Occasionally, Pedrosa led the qualifying practice session but in the last 15 minutes, Lorenzo took the top seat leaving his compatriot for second position. Later in the final moments, Stoner aimed for his best and the last shot earned him the second position.
There are now two Repsol Honda RCVs in first row for Sunday’s race.
The Spaniard said, “I felt more comfortable with the hard tyres, which it's positive because they will be the ones used for the race, but we still need to make another step forward tomorrow and hopefully find a little more grip in the rear.”
Just like his teammate Casey Stoner, the Spaniard is also conscious about Jorge Lorenzo. His compatriot has been steady to place himself in the top three slots. Lorenzo won at Mugello and came second at Sachsenring which has boosted his confidence.
Meanwhile Pedrosa is searching to improve his race package along with his crew. The Spaniard also added that the race will be fast paced which requires a lot of concentration in each section and lap.
The race will be hard because it is 32 laps long and equally tough on his physical condition. His body is still lacking proper strength and unlike Sachsenring which was a left-handed track, this will be hard on his shoulders.
Considering the bumpy track conditions, he is looking forward to stay calm aboard his RCV with consistency and pace avoiding any mistake.
