Repsol Honda rider Dani Pedrosa to sit out Silverstone Grand Prix – MotoGP news
Repsol Honda rider Dani Pedrosa will sit out the upcoming AirAsia British Grand Prix on June 12, 2011 after failing to recover from his injury.
Pedrosa also missed his home event last weekend at Barcelona.
He said, “After dedicating some time entirely to recover, I have decided not to take part in the British Grand Prix this week. I've done everything I could to be fit in time for Silverstone, but the conditions are not right to return to compete with guarantees.”
Pedrosa broke his right collarbone during the Le Mans GP. He and Marco Simoncelli were battling to gain second position in the race. After some speed tackles, Simoncelli made an aggressive move to overtake Pedrosa. In the action, the Italian rider closely
crossed the Spaniard and forced him to fall. The accident resulted in fracture for Pedrosa and a ‘ride through’ penalty for Simoncelli.
The Spanish rider underwent a surgery to fix his collarbone by inserting a titanium plate and screws. In order to prevent any vascular damages or pain, the plate size used is smaller than usual. With precaution, the healing process has taken longer than
anticipated by the doctors.
The Repsol Honda rider consulted with doctors and decided to skip the British event and give time to his injury to heal properly. Including the French GP, this will be the second round missed by Pedrosa out of six rounds of the 2011 season.
The Spaniard added, “I need to feel 100% fit before I get on the bike again and to be sure I can fight for the victory, I don't want to go out there just to do laps. I've raced many times with pain and the experience tells me I'm still not ready to be competitive.”
Dani Pedrosa has decided not to risk his rehabilitation and wait for the best possibility to make his comeback. The Spanish rider wants to get aboard the bike as soon as it is possible.
Before his accident, Pedrosa was in second place in the world championship points table. With no points at the Le Mans and Catalan GP, he is now at fourth place behind Repsol Honda teammates, Casey Stoner (second) and Andrea Dovizioso (third).
