Repsol Honda rider Dani Pedrosa undergoes second successful surgery – MotoGP news
Repsol Honda rider Dani Pedrosa underwent a second surgery to fix his broken collarbone which he suffered at the French Grand Prix.
The surgery, conducted by Dr. Xavier Mir, was declared as a success.
Dr. Mir said, “We believe the surgery was successful as we were able to fix the fragment of bone of his collarbone in a very stable way and because of this we are confident that in 48 hours it will be possible to begin rehabilitation of his right shoulder.”
Pedrosa suffered the broken collarbone during his accident with Honda RCV rider Marco Simoncelli in France.
The surgery was conducted to fix Pedrosa’s bone fragment. His bone segment was displaced during a rehabilitation exercise. The technique used to fix his fractured segment is called “compression osteosynthesis,” and it allows the patient to heal quickly.
The method also shortens the rest time.
The surgery was carried out at the USP Institut Universitari Dexeus under the supervision of Chief of the Pathology Unit of the Hand of Dexeus USP, Dr. Xavier Mir and vascular specialist of the Institute Planell at Teknon Medical Centre, Madrid Dr. Cesar
Garcia.
After the surgery was completed, Dr. Xavier Mir announced that Dani Pedrosa will be ready to continue his second session of rehabilitation after 48 hours of the surgery.
Pedrosa is still doubtful about participating in the next event of the 2011 MotoGP season, the Iveco TT Assen Grand Prix. If he misses out on the event, it will be his third successive miss of the season after the Spanish and British Grands Prix. Not participating
in the events have cost him a lot in terms of championship points as he has now dropped to a fifth place from the second position.
The new championship leader is Pedrosa’s teammate Casey Stoner who is dominating the chart with an 18-point lead from Jorge Lorenzo.
Let’s see if Pedrosa is able to participate in upcoming Netherlands’ event and makes his way back up in the championship.
