Repsol Honda rider Dani Pedrosa undergoes surgery, doubtful for Catalunya GP – MotoGP news
Repsol Honda rider Dani Pedrosa has decided to undergo a surgery after considering his options and consulting with the doctors.
The Spaniard will now undergo a surgery on his right collarbone which he got fractured at the French Grand Prix.
His right collarbone was fractured when he was running in a position battle with San Carlo Honda Gresini rider Marco Simoncelli. In the middle of the race, Simoncelli made a pass on Pedrosa. The Spaniard throttled up to gain back the lead. While entering
the bend, Simoncelli’s late approach to attempt the turn made the Italian to run over Pedrosa’s curve line and sent him in a severe fall. Although Simoncelli was penalised about his illegal act but the Spaniard had a frustrated race day.
Pedrosa has again chosen the doctors Dr. Joaquim Casanas and Dr. Cesar Garcia- Madrid who performed his previous surgery for his left subclavian artery. By removing the titanium plate from his left collarbone, the pressure on the artery was released to quite
an extent. The Spaniard underwent his last surgery on April 6, 2011 at the Teknon Medical Centre in Barcelona. The same trusted medical team will also perform the surgery on his right collarbone.
In the recent surgery, the Repsol Honda rider was inserted a titanium plate to hold his fractured right collarbone. After the medical checkups following surgery, he was discharged from the hospital. From next week, he is expected to begin passive rehabilitation.
The previous surgery was done after the rider complained at the season opener that he was feeling numbness and pain in his left arm. The pain resulted in lack of strength which affected his performance in the Qatar GP. After medical checkups, he was prescribed
a surgery but the closing round of Spain was not a chance to miss. Due to that, the rider was suggested to have the surgery immediately after the second round. His return at the Portuguese Grand Prix gave him the first victory of the season.
Before the French GP, the Spaniard was four points off from the World Championship leader Jorge Lorenzo. After his season’s first ‘did not finish’ status and teammate Casey Stoner’s victory in fourth round, he has dropped to third place in the points table
with a 17-point gap from the top seat.
