Repsol Honda rider Marc Marquez plays down chances of a MotoGP title – MotoGP news
Even though Marc Marquez has started the 2013 season splendidly well, with a 3rd place finish in the Qatar Grand Prix and a victory in the Grand Prix of the Americas,
yet the Spaniard has categorised the chances of a MotoGP title as ‘practically impossible’.
“I don’t want to think about that right at the moment. To be honest, I think winning the title this year is practically impossible,” Marquez said.
Marquez claimed that it was relatively easier for him to ride at the Losail Circuit and the Circuit of the Americas. But according to Marquez, the length of the
circuits would become smaller in the upcoming rounds, making the races more competitive.
“We’ve started off in a good way, but those two circuits treated me well. Now we’re going to smaller tracks, which won’t be so easy for me on a MotoGP bike – so
I’ve got to get used to that quickly,” said Marquez.
Marquez named the reigning MotoGP champion Jorge Lorenzo and his Repsol Honda teammate Dani Pedrosa as the favourites for 2013 MotoGP crown. However, Marquez aspires
to give each race to come his 100 percent.
“I assure you that we’ll be giving it 100 per cent in every single race, but I do think the title is between Jorge and Dani this year – they’re the strongest ones,”
the Spaniard said.
Almost 31 years ago, Freddie Spencer became the youngest rider to claim a MotoGP Grand Prix victory. Spencer achieved that milestone in 1982 by winning in the San
Marino Grand Prix of that year. Marquez managed to knock Spencer’s 31-year perch by winning at the Texas track less than a week ago.
Considering the fact that this is Marquez’s debut MotoGP season, his championship run so far has almost dazzled the likes of Valentino Rossi and Cal Crutchlow.
It yet remains to be seen how Marquez fares in the 2013 Spanish motorcycle Grand Prix which is scheduled to be held at the Jerez circuit on May 5, 2013 and the races to come after that. However, Marquez’s chances of winning at least a few more rounds in the
ongoing season seem very bright.
