Repsol Honda team rider Casey Stoner attends pre-race presser at Sachsenring – MotoGP news
Repsol Honda rider Casey Stoner attended the pre-race press meeting held at Sachsenring for the upcoming German Grand Prix.
The Australian rider was prepared for the ninth MotoGP event, the eni Motorrad Grand Prix Deutschland set to take place on Sunday, July 17, 2011.
Many other riders were also present at the pre-race presser including Jorge Lorenzo, Valentino Rossi, Dani Pedrosa and Loris Capirossi. Casey Stoner was the man to initiate the proceedings by commenting on the ninth MotoGP event being held in Germany.
Stoner said, “Sachsenring’s very tight and technical, and in the first half of the track you have to get your lines right and make sure the bike’s set up well to turn in the corners with the throttle open. The last part of the track is fast and flowing so
it’s a difficult one.”
The Aussie rider also added that it is a tough task to exactly tune the bike as required for the circuit. He said the track characteristics are really demanding both physically and technically. He further added that it also applies extreme pressure on tyres
especially on the left shoulder.
Stoner recalled the improvements made at the official MotoGP post-race test held at Mugello. The factory Honda rider has decided to use the new tested components for better lap times.
The Aussie rider further commented on the Mugello test and said, “At the Mugello test we tried to concentrate on the shock that we hadn’t tried since Sepang (Test) this year, and also tried a couple of things with the swing arm, so hopefully at a circuit
like this it will have helped to get some more understanding.”
In past at Sachsenring, the Australian rider at the Repsol squad secured his debut grand prix podium in 2003 under the 125cc class. Now at the 2011 MotoGP season’s German Grand Prix, he will be fighting to extend his winning streak to five wins and defend
his points leads to increase the gap from Jorge Lorenzo on the points table.
It is expected that the conditions at Sachsenring will be warm & dry which will provide maximum time for testing and practice for Sunday’s event.
