Repsol Honda trio ready to dominate the Portuguese Grand Prix – MotoGP Update
After the long unobvious break for three weeks, MotoGP action has come alive and the Repsol Honda trio Casey Stoner, Dani Pedrosa and Andrea Dovizioso are aiming to give high quality action to their fans.
The third event of the MotoGP calendar is scheduled for May 1 and the bwin Grande Premio de Portugal will be held on the Estoril circuit.
The actual third event was to be held in Japan, but due to the country’s disastrous situation after the earthquake and tsunami, the Motegi Twin circuit was significantly damaged and the race was shifted to October 2 from April 24.
Andrea Dovizioso was able to finish in fourth place at the first round in Qatar, but could not get a good run at the second event of the MotoGP 2011 season, finishing on 12th spot. Dovizioso is fully prepared to perform at the Portuguese GP and score some points for his Japanese factory team.
Dovizioso said, “I am looking forward to the race in Estoril, it’s a track where I have had very good results in my career. I arrive motivated, and want to get back to form after the Jerez weekend with a good race and to show the results of all the positive work done with the team.”
Repsol Honda rider, Dani Pedrosa is at second place on the World Championship points table, with nine points apart from leader Jorge Lorenzo of Yamaha Factory Racing. The Portuguese event will be the first time after his recent surgery, when Pedrosa will get back on the seat of RC212V.
Dani Pedrosa, while speaking on the Estoril round said, “I did what I had to do in these three weeks off and I look forward to getting back on the bike after this period, which has been good for me to undergo surgery and start rehabilitation.”
Casey Stoner was not lucky enough to claim his second consecutive victory of the season at the Gran Premio bwin de Espana, when Ducati rider Valentino Rossi slipped inside the Spaniard, during a high speed corner entry.
The accident between Stoner and Rossi was the talk of the event and it gained heat when Rossi went to Stoner’s garage, to apologise in front of cameras. The incident left the Spanish rider with a Did Not Finish (DNF) status. After the accident, the Italian rider was able to restart the race and finished at fifth place, following Hiroshi Aoyama of San Carlo Honda Gresini.
This weekend will be tough and crucial for Casey Stoner, as he will start his efforts to hunt down the defending World Champion, Jorge Lorenzo. The event will be worth watching, as Lorenzo has won all three races in his three starts at the Estoril track and Casey Stoner, has also scored two podium finishes at the circuit.
