Repsol Honda’s Andrea Dovizioso flies into Malaysian GP at third in 2011 championship – MotoGP news
Repsol Honda rider Andrea Dovizioso carries his third position in the 2011 championship into the Malaysian Grand Prix taking place on October 23, 2011.
Dovizioso took third position in the Australian GP and strengthened his seat in the championship.
The Italian was only one point ahead of teammate Dani Pedrosa in the championship, which was a big threat to lose his positions.
However, the Dovizioso is strong at the Sepang International Circuit (SIC), as it is also one of his favourite circuits in the MotoGP season.
Dovizioso said, “Malaysia is one of my favourite tracks, so I really want to get there and push 100% to try and win this race. We arrive highly motivated after the race in Australia, a circuit which has always been difficult for me.”
He reckoned that the last two events are of high importance and will decide the racing potential of the rider for the 2012 MotoGP season.
Dovizioso is wary about the potential of the close rivals and still tends to maintain his position in the world championship.
The teammate Pedrosa is a strong rider as he has missed three events and still stands on fourth position in the championship with three wins and six podium finishes.
During the Australian round, the Spanish Repsol rider was suffering from traction issue. Unfortunately, Pedrosa was not able to tune a right setup for the Phillip Island. He qualified for eighth position in the tough situation.
Pedrosa mentioned, “We have a couple of days to rest and recover from the race in Australia now and I'm looking forward to arriving in Malaysia. Sepang is a circuit I like and where we have had good results in the past. I won there in 125cc and 250cc, but
not yet in MotoGP and this is a very good motivation for me.”
Returning to SIC after winter testing early in the year, Pedrosa is confident to have a good weekend at the venue. During the preseason testing Honda RC212V was strong, where the team riders Casey Stoner and Dani Pedrosa proved their mettle for the 2011
MotoGP season.
The Spaniard aims to end his season in a successive way with two brilliant results in the last two events of the ongoing season.
It will be very helpful for the riders to start the weekend in comparison with the technical data collected in winter testing.
