Repsol Honda’s Casey Stoner hopeful of completing 2011 title run at Phillip Island – MotoGP news
Repsol Honda rider Casey Stoner said that he would like to complete his 2011 title run by the Phillip Island event.
The Aussie rider aims to claim a double win after his success at the Aragon GP.
Currently, Stoner has secured his championship lead with 44 points from runner up Jorge Lorenzo. After his recent win in Spain, if he manages to win at Motegi and Phillip Island, he will seal his MotoGP world championship for the 2011 season.
Casey Stoner told MCN, “I missed out winning the title at Phillip Island last time. The way it was going it looked like happening at the Island until things happened at Motegi and I didn't expect that. This year there is more possibility to win it at Phillip
Island, which would be fantastic but I'm not thinking about it.”
The most exciting part will be to confirm his world championship at his home ground. Stoner will collect his second championship title after his first in 2007 with the Ducati team.
As Stoner is leading the count of wins in the season with eight, he will be the most favourite rider during the Australian GP.
The Australian rider is now preparing for the next event of Japan, taking place at the Twin Ring Motegi circuit.
He added, “It would be nice to go into the last race without having to think about the championship but I have no problem if I have to go to the final race for the championship. That will get your blood rushing.”
The Aussie rider added that if he enters the last races with no worry for a title chase, it will have no burden on him. Otherwise, he is fine with fighting for title until the very last round of the season, he said.
He further added that it will be less troubling if he makes mistakes in the last couple of rounds after securing his season title at Phillip Island. However, he said he will aim for victory in every remaining race of the season.
