Repsol Honda’s Pedrosa considering removing steel plate from recent shoulder injury – MotoGP news
Repsol Honda rider Dani Pedrosa is considering removing the steel place used to fix his right collarbone that was fractured during the Le Mans GP.
It is yet to be decided whether the operation is conducted before the 2012 season’s start or he has to wait until the end of the next MotoGP season.
Earlier in the season, he had surgery on his left collarbone to remove the plate that obstructed his subclavian artery. Blockage on his artery caused him to suffer from numbness and pain.
The Spaniard sustained a fracture during the French GP. He crashed after getting in contact with late Marco Simoncelli of San Carlo Honda Gresini.
Both riders were engaged in position battle for second place. While making several passes on each other, Simoncelli eventually made a risky move that cost Pedrosa his right collarbone.
While talking to Motorcyclenews.com, Pedrosa said, “We have to consider about moving the plate in the right collarbone, so we have to check with the doctors when is a good time. It is good to take out but not too early, so sometimes you have to wait one
year for this.”
If the decision is taken to shortly conduct the surgery, then it will be done in the mid of the 2012 season, otherwise it will be postponed until next winter.
Due to the lack of strength and loss of muscles, he has been recommended to exercise. It will help him to recover the loss of energy and gain strength in his bones and muscles.
Pedrosa added, “My bones are still weak because I lost a lot of muscle mass and of course they are small and the tendons and ligaments are a little weak, but until the winter I can’t really work on that to get it back. Basically I am not in pain but I don’t
have the strength that I used to have in this area.”
The Spanish rider missed couple of races through the season and had two surgeries on his both collarbones. However, he managed to finish the 2011 MotoGP season in third place just behind his former teammate Andrea Dovizioso.
