Republic flag in US courtrooms?

I have noticed on TV in US courtrooms there is the American flag on the left and another flag with the words REPUBLIC on the right (and different colours.)

I was wondering what flag it is and if you could include a link re the source and a photo it would be appreciated as I genuinely would like to know. Thank you in advance for all replies!

  1. In US courtrooms, the US flag is displayed on the left and the state flag (there are 50 different ones) is displayed on the right.


  2. You should be aware that 'Judge Judy' is a television show, put on for entertainment not for legal status.

  3. It might be the state flag of California.  The California flag has a grizzly bear on it, with the words 'California Republic' written across the bottom above a red stripe.  If the courtroom is in Los Angeles (very likely) there would be both an American and a California flag.
