Republic of Ireland captain Robbie Keane not willing to retire in near future
West Ham United striker and http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Robbie-Keane-c31215 has brushed aside all the speculations about his retirement.
There were rumours that Keane would not be able to take any part in Ireland’s Euro 2012 qualifier against Macedonia but now the striker is fit and raring to play in the match scheduled for Saturday, 26 March, 2011.
The 30-year-old striker has expressed his desire to continue playing football for as long as he could. However, he mentioned that he would be more than happy to step aside if the officials assured him that there were some better forwards waiting in the ranks.
He said, “I was just asked the question that if someone came in and the manager felt it was time for me to be pushed aside, I would be fairly happy. If someone young and fit came in and did a better job than me, I would be happy enough.”
Keane admitted that he has never compromised upon his commitment for the side and no one could ever predict what lies in the future.
“I think you have seen over years, I have always been committed and always wanted to play for my country, and that will never change. I don't like to predict what is going to happen in three or four years' time with injuries and what have you. I will just
take each campaign as it comes, look forward to this campaign and hope we can qualify,” he added.
Robbie Keane was suffering from a calf injury and was expected to stay out for an indefinite period of time but amazingly, the striker is back to full fitness and is ready to lead his side out in the field. This will be the 40th time that the
30-year-old will be leading his side in an international fixture.
Keane referred towards an ice chamber which allowed him to get fit before time but mentioned that it was quite difficult to stay in it for more than four minutes.
Republic of Ireland will now be hoping that the striker comes good on Saturday when they host Macedonia.
