Explain to me the differences in what each party wants.

I'm all for getting whatever oil is in the US. But if energy works then I'm all for that too (they just REALLY need to make hybrid cars cute instead of those fugly Jetson looking bumber cars)

  1. McCain and Palin do have one difference He doesn't want to drill in anwar and she does. Both want more drilling and cleaner energy. Natural Gas, Renewables.

Obama wants to invest billions into renewable energy. Not much into oil.

  2. McCain has a superior energy policy. We need to leave every avenue open to secure our energy supply while at the same time developing alternative energy and changing our multi-trillion dollar infastructure. McCain's energy policy has the gimmicky gas holiday (which won't do anything), but overall I feel that he is leaving all options open so I will support him.

McCain will - Expand domestic oil exploration, work to lift restrictions on drilling. It is estimated that the Outer Continental Shelf alone contains 77 trillion cubic feet of recoverable natural gas.

McCain has the clean car challenge (you can read more about on his webpage) and the incentive to improve battery technology for full commercial development of plug-in hybrid and fully electric automobiles.

McCain makes the VERY important disctinction between ineffective forms of ethanol E85/corn and the more promising cellulosic ethanol, which won't compete with food crops.

    McCain supports clean coal technology.

McCain plans to build 45 new nuclear power plants by 2030 with the ultimate goal of eventually constructing 100 new plants. Nuclear energywill provide 700,000 new jobs.

McCain also beieves in even handed tax credits for alternative, low carbon energy - wind, solar, hydro ...

  3. Here are the headlines for Obama's plan:

"Obama’s comprehensive New Energy for America plan will:

        * Provide short-term relief to American families facing pain at the pump

        * Help create five million new jobs by strategically investing $150 billion over the next ten years to catalyze private efforts to build a clean energy future.

        * Within 10 years save more oil than we currently import from the Middle East and Venezuela combined.

        * Put 1 million Plug-In Hybrid cars -- cars that can get up to 150 miles per gallon -- on the road by 2015, cars that we will work to make sure are built here in America.

        * Ensure 10 percent of our electricity comes from renewable sources by 2012, and 25 percent by 2025.

        * Implement an economy-wide cap-and-trade program to reduce greenhouse gas emissions 80 percent by 2050."

  4. Republican plan is to find more sources of cheap oil so that we can pay a little less right now but over the long term we will still only be making the oil companies trillions of dollars.

Democrat plan is to tap into our reserves and make oil much much cheaper for us, at the same time invest billions into finding new alternatives to oil and further developing the alternatives we already know about.

The republican plan is seriously flawed but it doesn't matter to them they are getting paid off by the oil companies anyway so more profits for Exxon = more money from lobbying.

The democrat plan is bold tapping into our reserves is saying yes we can find an alternative.

There has already been the 100% electric car yet that got taken off the markets now we have hybrids. Why do we need a half oil half electric car when the 100% electric car worked so well people wanted to renew their leases yet they were denied! What happened to all these beautiful cars? They were actually crushed into scrap metal! You can have your own 100% electric car today but you cannot buy one at a dealership.

The republican plan is a plan to stretch out our use of oil and make profits for oil companies.

The democrat plan is to say enough is enough oil companies its over right now we are tapping our reserves cheap gas for everyone and yes lets put billions into researching ways to do the work we need without any oil! This way before we run out of reserves we can have this problem solved.

  5. 272,650,000 passenger cars in the USA

Single most cars sold in 1 year  8 million

That means it will take 32 years to replace all the current passenger vehicles

What do you think makes sense

  6. The big difference is McCain wants to drill here.  Obama wants to drill nowhere.  Obama complains that we are spending $10B a month in Iraq and that is true and that is bad but; we are spending $58B a month on foreign oil.  If we drill that money stays home.  We need every alternative energy source we can get Obama is only offering 3 and technology isn't here yet.
