"I have said before and I will repeat again: People's families are off limits," Obama said. "And people's children are especially off-limits. This shouldn't be part of our politics. It has no relevance to Gov. Palin's performance as a governor or her potential performance as a vice president. So I would strongly urge people to back off these kinds of stories. You know my mother had me when she was 18 and how a family deals with issues and teenage children, that shouldn’t be a topic of our politics."

He is a genuinely nice person, the Republicans bashed his wife all the time during the early stages of the elections but now look at them. He extended his empathy to the Palins and was whole-heartedly gracious.

  1. Right he said that 3 days after his spokesperson said all kinds of mean c**p about Palin.

Politics as usual nothing to see here.  Move along.  I am not interested in the kool aid

  2. He means his owns kids.  We understand Odumber more than he thinks we do.

  3. Obama is right.  The focus should be on the issues and who can best keep this country the great nation it is.

  4. Yes, it shows that he does have respect.

    McCain/Palin08

  5. Kapow. right back in their faces with some class

  6. I respect him for showing class.

    But it wont matter

I have said all along it will be the actions of his supporters that cost him the election.

  7. They bash his wife, not his kids. Michelle Obama made anti-American comments. And just because he condemns the behavior of some of his supporters, that won't get me to vote for him.

  8. They dished out stuff on Cindy McCain too so don't make Michelle a Martyr. But yes, Children should definitely be OFF LIMITS! Obama did the right thing, too bad the idiot left wing loons on answers won't do the same.

  9. IA  this issue will make them think twice before bashing Michelle again you can't have it both ways.

  10. he had to because he doesn't want anyone talking about his wife double billing poor people at her hospital.obamatruth.org

  11. Somebody wrote that for him to say and told him it would help him try to catch up in the polls..

  12. I give the Senator credit for taking the position he did.  It’s not going to stop people from attacking Palin, but at least Obama didn’t egg his supporters on.

Given that Sarah Paylin and her husband live in Alaska, if she claimed to be “a soccer mom” she could be criticized for child neglect. Lol Can you imagine what it would feel like to have a soccer ball bounce off your forehead when it’s minus 20 degrees outside?    I don’t see anything political in her self-description. To me, “hockey mom” and “soccer mom” simply denote a woman with a fairly young family.

As a practical matter, politicians use just about everything they can to attract votes and their opponents use anything they can do deny them those votes.  That’s politics.

  13. I don't think Republicans know graciousness when they hear it.  They never mind trashing candidate's families as much as possible, they never have.  I doubt if they know how to react to this sort of common decency.  They probably think of it as weakness and isn't that sad.

    EDIT:

After reading just the few responses you have already received, I rest my case.

  14. It's a kind jesture.  I'm not going to say he doesn't have his moments.  After all he is one of a handful who had to send McCain's citizen status to the floor because of too many ignorant fools.  Then again maybe it was a jesture to stop the attacks on him as well.

S.RES.511 : A resolution recognizing that John Sidney McCain, III, is a natural born citizen.

Whereas John Sidney McCain, III, was born to American citizens on an American military base in the Panama Canal Zone in 1936: Now, therefore, be it

Mrs. MCCASKILL (for herself, Mr. LEAHY, Mr. OBAMA, Mr. COBURN, Mrs. CLINTON, and Mr. WEBB) submitted the following resolution; which was referred to the Committee on the Judiciary

I'm not taking anything away from him, but outside this one example his other dealings have been less than admirable.  And his wife did say she was never proud of the country until he started to run.

  15. He says it so he will appear so understanding.  Meanwhile he has his hit men and his media out there  sliming this young girls.

i do not trust him.. and I sure as h**l do not believe him.

Can;t wait until they start in on his own two little girls.. wonder how he will like that?

  16. I know! Them b*****s better be grateful because they would not do **** for us.

  17. I'm sorry was he talking again?

And how do you know he is genuinely nice? And by the way that is a matter of opinion and they, being his wife and himself have flat out said they don't like AMERICA! So he doesn't' need to stay in America he and his wife need to leave not run the country.

  18. I am glad he said that but there is a difference in closely examining a candidates wife, who will have influence in politics and going after a candidates child. I'd feel the same if the press were going after Obama's daughters. It is well established throughout history that the children of candidates are supposed to be extended greater levels of privacy than their spouses. BTW, the dems went after McCains wife for the prescription drug problem too .... don't forget that.
