I moderate a closed group. Approval to join is required. When I approve a request via e-mail, it's ignored. Approvals via the Web are processed.

  1. the term 'closed' group actually means to gain members, you can only send invites, no one can find a Closed group in the directory in order to attempt to join. so if you have approvals to join, the group then probably is Restricted membership, not Closed.

for a few months anything via e-mail is not working properly, unsubscribing- approving memberships and posts as well. people have been complaining about this to yahoo. for now I'd skip the e-mail reply and do it off the group till they fix it, and send this form to inform Yahoo this is affecting your group

  2. The people may not be aware that they have to send a reply back to make the approval effective.  The other thing that could be going on is that there could be a technical problem going on.

I would recommend checking with a Yahoo Groups customer service representative as well to see what they think could be going on.
