Question:

Requirements for Irish Citizenship by Descent (FBR)?

My grandmother was born in Ireland, and like so many others, I am trying to apply for Irish citizenship. While I have her Irish birth certificate, I also have her marriage certificate, where she lists that she was born in the U.S., in the town that she grew up in. Anyone go through this process, and know whether this is an insurmountable problem? I have requested proof from Iowa, that she was not born there (as noted on the marriage certificate).

  1. I cant imagine it will be a huge problem.

Her original birth cert will still be in Ireland (they are all kept in the general register office in Dublin) and when you apply they will check her details against the original in Ireland.

What you have is a copy (often a handwritten copy but still a copy) so as long as they check the original here they'll see that she was born here.

I dont think that it would matter that its wrong on the marriage cert.

If for some reason her original cert in Ireland was lost or damaged you might have a problem.
