What are the physical requirements for a footer on a single story dwelling?

What are the requirements to obtain a permit in Florida for said footer?

It also depends on what type of building, weight, soil compaction, soil quality, water table, etc. etc...   Florida is one of (if not the toughest) States to get a building permit  due to their stringent building codes.  Be absolutely certain you contact the city for this information - you will regret it otherwise.  Good Luck!

  2. A footer is usually twice as wide as the wall it will support and as thick as the wall it will support.  For an eight inch thick block wall, the footer should be 16 inches wide by 8 inches deep.  With 2 parallel runs of rebar all the way around and buried in the concrete.
