  1. If you have an American driver's license and  you are just visiting in France, you can use an international driver's license good for a year.  These are issued by any AAA bureau and cost about $10 if you supply your own photos.  Basically, its a translation of your current license.  I don't know where you get something like this in other countries.

If you live in France and plan to drive, well, that's another matter entirely.  There are several states that let you transfer an American license for a French one in the first year of residence.  If you don't have a license from one of those states, you'll have to take the French exam to get a license.  If you have a license issued from a EEC country, you can drive in France with that.  Some other countries let you exchange licenses, like Canada, I believe.  Usually, your Embassy in France will have this sort of information on their website.

  2. A vehicle and a licence!

  3. there is a drivers pack you have to get by french law.stickers first aid kit etc.ask at your travel agents about this because if you don't have one there are on the spot fines.don't forget they drive on the wrong side of the road there.but don't worry there all asleep most of the day or that's how it appeared when we were in Brittany recently.roads very quiet.
