I want to go to a fine arts college in London (overseas) and major in photography. I've never had any experience of a photographer, and photography wasn't a course offered at my highschool. Do you think I could still be accepted? What's the cost of a school like this? The only good college I've heard of is University of Arts London.

  1. u will need to show a portfolio.

not sure about London, because here in australia we have HECS, which enables students to pay back their uni fees to the government in installements, rather than making young people pay right away

  2. Hello,

I live in England, I applied to uni of arts to do photography! But decided to not go because i didn't want to live in London! too expensive and busy for me! So I'm now starting at a different Uni!

Here is University of Arts website:

    http://www.arts.ac.uk/

I believe photography is at Camberwell College of Art.

This is what it says from their photography entry requirements page:

Entry Requirements . Portfolio of work

. A foundation course/ National Diploma/AVCE/ Advanced GNVQ or equivalent

. Passes in 2 GCE A Levels (or 1 GCE A Level plus 2 GCE AS Levels)

. Passes at GCSE level in 3 subjects (grade C or above)

. EU/International students must show proof of equivalent qualification and IELTS 6.0 in English on enrolment

. Applications are welcome from mature students and the College takes into consideration prior learning, alternative qualifications

    and experience

A Levels are what we do at ages 17 and 18...so I'm not sure what that is equivalent to in America, but I'm guessing you would need some sort of qualification in photography or art. But I'd ring them or email them and find out.

There are some other good Art Schools in England, try www.ucas.com and do a course search for photography, and it gives you a list of all universities doing photography and related courses in the UK.

    Goodluck!

  3. You need to show a portfolio of your art work. If you don't have any photographs you took, take along some of your drawing, your painting, computer manipulated images. The college needs to see that you can do something with ART.

I don't know what this course costs in London, but they're quite inexpensive in Australia. Some are even subsidised by the government. (They pay you a pension while you are learning).
