Just wondering. Perhaps I can make a few bucks doing people's taxes electronically since I have helped most of my family in the past years. I haven't yet done my CPA (yet) but I have a BA in Accounting...

Oh, I live in California. Is there a governement site or some other informative place in the web? Thanks in advance :D

  1. First, you must submit a form 8633 to apply to be an authorized E-filer.  The irs web site irs.gov has all of the information, and forms and publications you need.  California, I believe, requires paid preparers to be licensed, and there is a test they must pass.  The CA tax website will have the details on that.

Next, talk with other tax professionals, and see if, after hearing what they say about the business, you are still interested.  I've found that it's like the old Navy slogan:  it's not just a job, it's an adventure!

Welcome to the club, and good luck!
