Question:

Requirements to get a new social security number?

My wallet was stolen and it unfortunately had my social security card and birth certificate in there. I never keep those things in there, but I had a job interview the day before and forgot to take them out. I went out the next night and the wallet was stolen. Does this qualify me as a candidate for getting a new number? I am just afraid of identity theft. Thanks!

  1. The SSA does not issue new SSNs lightly.  You must actually have identify theft occur, not just have your card stolen.

Contact the SSA for a replacement card (which will be the same number).
