Question:

Requirements to make supercharged mustang v6 safe?

Hey I'm planning on supercharging my 2007 mustang v6 in a few weeks. Obviously I'll need to tune the car afterward, but as far as safety goes i need help figuring out what changes are necessary to ensure that the car won't fall apart at 130 or 140 mph. If anyone could tell me what aftermarket upgrades I'll need, i would appreciate it very much.

Thanks, Joe.

  1. Bigger brakes for starters. The trans will have to be beefed up, as will the rear end. And lets not forget the engine internals. They weren't meant to handle high horsepower so you'll need a forged crank and rods. The stock heads will need a little machining to get all that air in and out. A set of 42# injectors and a high output fuel pump.

That will keep you busy for awhile !  HAVE FUN

  2. Why you'd add a blower to the Secretary Model is beyond me, but whatevs - different strokes and all that.

Tighten up the suspension.  Change out the bushings to all polyurethane so you don't have as much slop.  Check the stance and see if you want to lower it a bit, maybe switch in stiffer springs and shocks to keep it under control.

Upgrade the brakes.  Things get bad in a hurry at those speeds.  Upgrade the tires - but I hope you already knew about that.  Upgrade the radiator.

Be careful.  I'm assuming you're heading for the dragstrip, but if not you can kill self and others tearing around like that on public roads.  If you have to kill yourself, please don't take anyone with you.

  3. mostly better brakes.  you'll have a lot more power and a harder time stopping it.

better tires would be good since the ones you have aren't designed for speed.

you'll eventually need trans work.  that trans isn't set up for the power you'll produce and ford trans are typically picky about that.

eventaully tightening up the chassis to handle higher cornering speeds would be a good idea as well.

  4. - Rebuild the engine with stronger internals to deal with the higher pressures.

    - Upgraded cooling sytem to deal with all the extra heat.

    - Upgraded transmission to deal with the extra power.

    - New ECU to deal with all the new stuff you added and for tuning.

    - Better brakes to deal with a faster car.

    - Your car will still be limited to approx. 110 unless you tuner can remove that.

    - The V6 models are limited to such a low top speed due to instability above 110 mph caused by soft suspension, lift, and tire ratings.  You will want to upgrade everything.

    - A stronger rear axle from the Mustang GT or aftermarket to deal with the increased power.

Why didn't you just get a Mustang GT?  Its going to be just as fast, cheaper, more reliable, have some resale value, and still have a full warranty.

Where are you going to do 130 mph?  There is no way you will get up to those speeds on a drag strip.
