Requirements to visit Canada for the day?

I'm from Northern NY and my friends and I wanna go to Canada for one of our friends birthdays. What do we need to be able to get across the border for the night?

Hi,

     If you're driving across (which I assume you are) you will need the following for a LAND crossing:

(1) valid government photo ID, such as your driver's licence, and

(2) your original birth certificate.

Not one or the other but both.

If you happen to be FLYING from a U.S. city to a city in Canada you would require a passport.
