Mga kapatid ko, kailangan nating magsanib!

Our engineers and trains need serious help. Trains run on borrowed time, rails are as crooked as our gov't officials, squatters on the rails putting themselves in grave danger, stations are in disarray, and only a few kilometers of rail are left of the once widespread and glorious RR network..

Please let our plight be known to other non-profit organizations and restoration groups concerning railways...

let this post be the Tutuban Central Station of the preservation, restoration, and operation of our PNR...

mabuhay mga kapatid!

  1. Unfortunately it's not going to happen, even in light of the obvious economic benefits it would bring society here. Like you said, the rail system is in disarray and becomes a little worse every day.

People would prefer to take an air conditioned bus rather than sit inside a carriage that looks like a prison cage. They are smelly, dirty, and unsafe. People throw their rubbish on any flat surface as it passes by. Many people smoke inside, urinate, and are generally obnoxious and rude. (Jologs)

How would this be fixed? Same as the LRT / MRT / and the other one between Recto and Antipolo. Fences, track raised above ground where needed, regularly maintained, increased ticket prices, removal of corruption, fair wages to staff, strictly enforced maximum passenger numbers, no overloading, it's a long list.

Unfortunately nobody here seems to care much about historical preservation. Look at Intramuros - they chip away at it constantly. Eventually there will be nothing left. So much history here, but people want their SUV's and cheap fuel instead.

  2. Hello,

I am unsure if you read the media in the Philippines however there have been many moves.

The rebuild of the Tutuban to Lucena line continues. The squatters are gone over a major section while large lengths of track near Paco have been started and progresses further each day.

Northrail, while currently at a bit of a standstill, is still expected to push through and hopefully a contract for Southrail will be let soon.

Other plans for the rebuilding of the Panay railway and a brand new one on Mindanao also exist, but nothing has been set in stone.

As for preservation, a group has been set up there (officially formed a few months after my 2007 visit). It is run by locals and intends to preserve Philo railway history.

    Regards

    Brad

  3. I enjoy trains, and i can feel for you, i am in Australia, but every country should have and look after their rail, no wonder so many Philippine people want to come to Australia, if the transport is treated like this, why is there not more money spent on it? How can there be such corruption even now? You see so many there like to flaunt their wealth !  at who's expense one wonders.......the world is not blind
