Research Paper on Biology?

I have to write a research paper (6-8 pages), and I need some info on advances in Biology/science. Could anyone point me to some websites (not Wikipedia please :) ) that could help me? The time period is from Pre-colonial (1500) through 1877. Thanks so much!!!!!!!!!

Do searches on the invention of the microsope, discovery of penicillin, Da Vinci's research of man's anatomy, Louis Pasteur and Dr. Lister (premier bacteriologists), and Gregor Mendel (genetics).
