  1. it's never going to happen. i can tell you that much. the world revolves around money. and the gas sellers are always gonna win because they want their money and since they're rich they can buy off whoever they want.. blah blah blah...

  2. Electric is the most readily available fuel. and has been around a long time eg first car to exceed 100kph http://www.speedace.info.

it can be made from any suitable/local primary source (wind, tidal, hydro, solar, bio-mass...) and transported easily to where it is required, no leaks or spills, over the existing infrastructure.

Modern batteries do not use rare or toxic metals, have a long life and are fully recyclable (unlike infernal combustion or fuel-cell systems)

and electric cars are much more pleasent to drive because electric motors deliver max torque from 0 rpm from cold, smooth, quiet, smell-free, low maintenace.

Fossil fuels would be an alternative - but why would anyone want to use a finite resource controlled by a few global corps  that requires complex refining and vunerable transport routes from politically and environmentally sensitive areas; complicated engine management & exahust systems that rarely run at optimum load or temperature ...?

  3. ethanol and biodiesel can be used just like gasoline and diesel fuel respectively.

ethanol is made from starches that come from corn and whatnot the starch is turned to sugar and the sugar brewed into alcohol(ethanol)

biodiesel is converted fats and oils.  process called transesterification.

converts the fats into fuel esters

things to look up, ethanol, cellulosic ethanol, biodiesel, oilseed crops(canola, etc)

cellulosic eth is up and coming, lots of research in this.  the technology will alow us to make ethanol from cellulose.  ie hay crops(switchgrass, reed canary grass, wood, etc

i am actually going to visit a biodiesel plant this afternoon
