Can Hurricanes form in the Middle of the Atlantic Ocean in winter?

I really need this answer.

What can anyone tell me about Hurricanes in the Middle of the Northern Atlantic

  1. Yes they can, but not very often.  Hurricane season lasts until like the end of November.  So a hurricane could form there during the winter, but more than likely it would probably not get out of the tropical deppresion state, or the early stages of a hurricane.

  3. Probably not.  From the link, "Hurricanes originate over warm tropical oceans. In fact, the heat of the water provides the energy needed for the storm to develop and maintain itself. Water at temperatures below 26°C (80°F) does not possess sufficient heat to generate and sustain a hurricane. This is why hurricanes in the northern hemisphere develop in the late summer or early autumn months, when Caribbean and Atlantic Ocean temperatures are at their warmest."
