Have you researched daycares yet?

For those of you that have kids in daycare or plan on putting your baby in daycare, have you researched the cost for an infant yet?

In my area the high end is $320 per week (about $1280 per month), middle is about $250 ($1000 per month) and low about $180 ($720 per month for home daycares).

Is it this expensive everywhere in the US? I am in the Chicago area.

  1. That's astronomical!  Here in middle GA, I put my son in the most expensive, nicest daycare in the city.  It is $130 a week.  Brand new facility, you must have a code to get in the door, cameras in each room, teaching curriculum for children, brand new expensive equipment and furniture.  I can't believe it so high there! The cheapest I heard of here was $85 a week and it was a rat hole

  2. that sounds about right from what i've researched here in sacramento...we just decided my bf would work two jobs and i'd stay home, otherwise i'd be working JUST to put my kid in daycare!

  3. I live in Toronto, canada and the cost for an infant in a downtown spot is roughly $1600 per month (crazy!!)

The biggest issue I had was getting him on the waiting lists.  I called when I was 6 weeks pregnant and am still not sure If he'll have a spot when he turns one.

Not sure if its the same way in all US cities.
