Researching my surname

its Lingane

now my family are irish

but theres been mention of us coming from italy and the name being anglacised (no clue how to spell that)

anyone have the same surname or know wat it means or if it transnaltes into something

no rude things please you cheeky people my poor grandad would choke on his communion

  1. Start by talking to all members of your family. Look at family Bibles for information. Send for copies of birth and death certificates.

    Family histories are hard work. Most people I know spend many years on them. You are unlikely to click on one website and find it all done for you.

I'll try not to make your grandad choke. :)  Do you live in Ireland or the US?  I have a feeling the answer is Ireland, but I looked up US census records for Lingane, anyway.  Early on they were from Ireland, but in 1920 I found a John Lingane, 15, born in Italy, living in Englewood Cliffs, Bergen Co., NJ.
