I go to my dos command prompt and type in - ipconfig /release but when I hit enter it says "The requested operation requires elevation." What does that mean and how do I get past that? I am running Windows Vista.

  1. There is very simple solution for it.

1.Click on start button->in the search box, type cmd->now on the top you will see CMD->right click on cmd and click on run as administrator.

Now you can run ipconfig /release.

The reason is that in Vista Adminstrator is a menber of standard user group

  2. its just permissions preventing this, try resetting from the network connection itself using the repair function

  3. You didn't mention whether you have dial up, DSL, or cable modem. The internet provider assigns the IP address. You can either contact them for a new IP, or use a Proxy.

  4. You need to run that as an administrator.  Try going to Start-->Run and type cmd to open the command prompt (if you are not already).
