I was told to put the mac os x install disk in. I have two, but I put the first one in. Apparently you just go through the installation steps until a certain point, but mine is asking for the password which I don't know because I ws given my computer by the disability people.

Can anyone help? And I have a Mac Book Pro if that makes any difference.

  1. It sounds like your computer isn;t starting up from the disks... Heres what you should do:

While the computer is on, put the cd in the drive. Now shutdown the computer (with the cd still in there). Let the computer fully shutdown. Now start it back up again, but this time hold down the C key until you see the blue background of the startup screen (the C tells the computer to start from CD).  Now you should get to the installer.  When the first page of the installer starts (I think it's a welcome page), go up to the menus at the top and select Password Reset - you should be able to reset the passwords from there. When you are done, choose restart from the apple menu and hold down the mouse button (or trackpad button if you have a laptop) until the disk pops back out of the computer... this can take a while!

Hope that works.... drop me an IM or a message if it doesn't!
