Hi, I am gong to Residence Le Capanne - San Giuliano Terme, Località La Capanna

San Giuliano Terme - PISA 56017 near Pisa on Thursday. Has anyone been here, is it as nice as it looks on the pictures and is there anything to do locally, bars, restaurants etc or do we have to go to Pisa itself for any sort of entertainment.

Also I have been told that a taxi from the airport to the appartments will be about 30-35 euros, is this correct?

I was also gong to take a day out in Viareggio on Sunday, is there any tips from anyone aout any of these questions.

  1. Yes i went there once and it was lovely............

Erm apart from the toilet flush not working and sewage coming up

Oh and the day trip will be ace, aslong as your not with anyone that hates bugs, the cockroaches are massive!

  2. It is in a good location with a wonderful view, but my advice is: rent a car!

The residence is isolated and on a hill, at the end of a narrow and step road: there is nothing in a walking distance (or, more exactly, you find something in a walking distance, if you plan trekking).

With a car you can go to Pise, Lucca (in the neighborhood), Siena, (or go to the nearer railways station to Florence )

This is an absolutely stunning hotel, high on a hillside overlooking the plain of Tuscany. The views are amazing from sunrise to sunset. You can just see the leaning tower of Pisa while you have your breakfast on the terrace or whilst you sunbathe around their pool.

The hotel has both traditional hotel rooms (ask for one in the main house with a view) or one room apartments with a small built in kitchenette which is ideal for families with children. The apartments also each have their own small ground floor patios where you can barbeque, if you wish. Some are like small villas in style.

The staff were really friendly and made the stay absolutely brilliant.

This hotel is about 12 km from Pisa and away from the local town - so you will need to have a car. We booked a car on the internet through Jet2 which we found to be very reasonable, billed in £'s and included all the extras (air conditioning, CDW, unlimited mileage etc). Make sure that you get an up to date road map and leave yourselves time to find the hotel.

Don't make the mistake which we made and get directions to the wrong "Le Capanne". There are several hotels in Tuscany with this or similar names. Accidentally, I gave my wife (who was travelling alone) directions to an hotel with this name about 140 km away in the wrong direction - but fortunately she spotted my mistake before leaving Pisa airport.

Pisa is only worth one day. We recommend taking the time to go to Lucca (which is near this hotel), Siena (which is wonderful) and Florence.

We spent 3 days in this hotel, eating in their restaurant once (which was good value and great food) and then we moved on to Florence for 3 days.

Go to the hotel website for their photos which are very accurate and representative.
