Capcom are looking to make the latest Resident Evil games more like the Call of Duty series in order to open the game up to a wider demographic of consumers.
Resident Evil purists should probably stop reading and turn away now as this article may be more terrifying to them than any of the pant-wettingly terrifying moments in the long list of Resident Evil games they have played.
According to Capcom, or rather Dave Turner, Capcom’s head in the United Kingdom, the survival horror series is set to continue the survival action feel of Resident Evil 5 into the next game as well.
Many fans were hoping the sixth game in the series would mark a return to the classic Resident Evil style which the classic title, Resident Evil 4, managed to perfect. However, it seems that the developers are focused more on blending it with games such
as Modern Warfare and Black Ops instead.
Mr. Turner stated, “The dream would be that the millions of Call of Duty fans that are enjoying these fast-paced online games are attracted to this Resident Evil.”
Although in that particular statement he was referring to the extremely action oriented, Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City, the change in ethos at Capcom is clear to see and that is to make future games in the series more action oriented.
“We’ve seen the popularity of Resident Evil increase massively as the series became more action oriented – Resident Evil 5 is the biggest seller in the series. So, it makes sense for us to follow this action area more fully.”
There are no denying the figures, yet one has to note the fact that Resident Evil 5 rode on the success of Resident Evil 4. The latter winning a fair number of 'Game of the Year' awards but the former not doing as well on the critical front.
It is still early days yet and there is much to learn about the sixth game in the core series and who knows, maybe Capcom has something up their sleeves for the purists as well. All one can do is wait until the 20th of November, when the game
hits shelves, to find out.
