Capcom, the game’s publisher, is expecting their latest offering in the Resident Evil franchise to prove to be a big hit and expects the game to outsell anything else it will be offering this year.
Leon Kennedy, Chris Redfield and Albert Wesker’s son are all playable characters in one of Capcom’s most ambitious titles to date. Resident Evil 6 is, in essence, three games in one, with each character having his unique gameplay style and a co-op partner, also unique to each character.
Chris Redfield’s storyline will feature a more action heavy approach, one that will build upon what gamers saw in Resident Evil 5. On the other hand, Leon Kennedy’s gameplay will be a shout-out to the Resident Evil purists, as it will have a more gothic, suspenseful, survival-horror setting.
As for the last character, well it turns out that Wesker’s son will have a new style of gameplay that none of the characters in the entire Resident Evil franchise has had before.
Each character’s story will be a separate campaign for players and one can expect the storylines to overlap as the game progresses.
It seems that Capcom is putting a significant portion of its considerable weight behind the title as it has forecast the game’s sales at 7 million copies. What makes that figure astounding is the fact that the studio’s best selling title to date is Street Fighter 2 and that game only sold a total of 6.3-million units. Oh, and it was also released on the Super Nintendo.
However, Capcom earlier stated that they wanted the Resident Evil games to be more mainstream and in that effort seem to want to attract all types of gamers; fro m those who want an action experience to those who are looking for a bit of survival horror as well.
As for the other games, Capcom expect Lost Planet 3 to sell just under 1.5-million units, Dragon’s Dogma to sell around 1.5-million units and Dante’s latest adventure, Devil May Cry to sell around 2-million units.
It should also be taken into consideration that the only game which came close to equalling Street Fighter’s record was Resident Evil 5.
