Resident Evil: Retribution accident injures 16 actors, zombie makeup confuses paramedics
An accident which took place while filming on the set of the latest Resident Evil film, Resident Evil: Retribution, left 16 actors injured and in need of immediate medical attention.
The incident occurred when a piece of the elaborate set which, it turns out, was on a high-wheeled platform that moved out of place. The movement created a gap between the two platforms which the actors fell through.
However, things were only to get worse for the actors who were covered in zombie make-up and fake, yet extremely realistic, wounds and gashes.
The reason this made things worse was because the paramedics had a tough time figuring out which injuries were real and which ones were the artificially created ones from the make-up.
David Ralph, the Emergency Medical Service Commander for the Toronto region, narrated how one of the paramedics reacted to the injuries before realizing most of them were the make-up, “I (David Ralph) could see the look on the first paramedic, saying ‘Oh
my God,’”.
The words were almost echoed, though with a more calm tone by the Andrew Gibson, a Toronto Police Sergeant, who conceded, “It did kind of catch us off guard when we walked in.”
To be honest, who could blame either of the two emergency response team units who responded to the emergency call only to find 16 people injured and maimed beyond belief and looking like zombies.
Lucikly the injuries were not as serious as their zombie suits may have made it seem.
Of the 16 victims, 12 were taken to hospital, one of whom had suffered a broken leg while two others suffered a back injury and cracked rib respectively.
There was some good news as well, as it was also reported that seven of the actors were declared fit and have returned to the set for filming, while the other nine are still receiving treatment and medical attention.
It was also announced that none of the film’s main cast had been injured during the accident and that filming is set to continue.
Resident Evil: Retribution is the fifth instalment of the big screen adaptation to the popular Capcom zombie themed franchise.
The director himself has admitted that they are looking for more inspiration from the video games this time around, something which audiences saw in the previous film, Resident Evil: Afterlife, as well.
A majority of the cast from the previous film has been retained and will be appearing in Retribution, something that has been the strongpoint of the Resident Evil film series so far, and will continue the story of Alice and her fight against the Umbrella
Corporation.
The film is set for a 2012 release date and is being filmed using the latest 3D capture technology, something which both film enthusiasts and gamers will be looking forward to see.
