Residents living near under construction Austin, Texas Formula 1 track concerned – Formula 1 news
Recent reports have revealed that the residents living near the under construction Formula 1 track in Austin, Texas for the US Grand Prix have voiced their concerns regarding the track along with the tax payers who have also shown their dissatisfaction regarding
the funding of the track.
Kirk Becker, one of the critics of this whole plan also stated that the plan has been put forward very hastily which is the main concern of the taxpayers and the investors.
“You have yet to make a case to us that this is a good deal,” Becker said. “Y’all are still drafting this contract as we speak. We deserve a chance to digest that and have time to communicate our thoughts and feelings about what that final draft looks like
before you vote on it.”
Many people were asked to testify regarding this plan on an official contract as a result of which, Austin’s City Council has delayed its decision regarding this matter until further notice.
This is not good for the officials of the sport as they have already announced that the US Grand Prix is going to take place in 2012 and even though these problems might get resolved in the near future, these sorts of hurdles become very frustrating for
the organisers as they affect the workflow.
However, attorney Bill Aleshire represented local residents and recently filed a lawsuit against Texas Comptroller Susan Combs regarding the unreliability of the payments and funding of the track.
“So if you don’t follow the rules to get this money, it’s illegal to spend it. It’s not a tax incentive promised in advance. If they’re already choosing to come here, you’re just giving them money,” he said.
Nevertheless, since nothing has been proved against this project officially, the organisers might find a solution for all of these problems. Let’s see how the situation transpires in the days to come.
