Resignation has nothing to do with money, says former coach Yong Sung – Badminton News
Former Doubles coach Yoo Yong Sung lashed out at Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) for twisting the facts and hiding main reasons of his departure from national coaching setup.
The Korean tendered his resignation few days back and BAM officials declared that he demanded a revised salary package and left after national body refused to fulfil his demand.
Now Yong Sung has burst out as he clearly negated this version of the story by telling that he did not ask for any salary raise rather left just because he was not given proper opportunity to show his skills.
He said, “It has nothing to do with money. I came to Malaysia because of my passion for the game and I wanted an opportunity to build my coaching career. But I was not given a chance to hone my skills here.”
Doubles head coach Tan Kim Her recommended his name for Men’s Doubles coach and Yong Sung was supposed to help Koo Kien Keat-Tan Boon Heong to regain their status in the arena.
Meanwhile, he was also given the responsibility to train back-up shuttlers but the Korean legend told that he did not get a chance to perform his duty.
Yong Sung said, “I was invited to coach here with the assurance that I would be helping Koo Kien Keat-Tan Boon Heong but I was hardly given a chance to do so. Every day, I was asked to train a different group of players.”
Former Olympic silver medallist also added that he brought this situation in notice of Kim Her but his reservations were brushed aside by everyone.
Later, he had a meeting with BAM secretary Ng Chin Chai and General Manager Kenny Goh after completing his probation period and this meeting ended with Yong Sung announcing his decision to leave coaching setup.
Meanwhile, his wife Eun Young also criticised BAM for cancelling their work permit which has put them in trouble as now they will have to leave Malaysia before the end of this month.
Earlier, another foreign coach Rexy Mainaky also walked away from coaching setup which raised questions on controlling system of national body.
