Resistance: Fall Of Man question?

Ok, so I just bought Resistance: Fall Of Man for my PS3 from EB Games, and (apparently) it has never been used. The disc looks perfect, no scratches or smudges or anything.

When I turn on the game, it goes to a screen that says something along the lines of "Resistance: Fall Of Man needs to update, it will take 45-50 seconds" or something like that. At the bottom of the screen the phrase " Press The Start Button" is flashing, so I press it, and nothing happens. So then I wait a few minutes, and try again, and no luck. How can I get my game to work? It's like the controller won't respond to the game, and I know it's not the controller or the PS3, because I tried other controllers and other games. How can I get my game to work?

generally after downloading and installing an update a ps3 game will A) have you quit the game and restart, or B) be fine and start working right away.  After the start button i suggest waiting a minute, quiting the game via the PS button and then try.

Try pressing the PS button, but if that doesn't help than i don't know what to tell you
