Ted Price, the CEO of Insomniac Games gave fans of the Resistance a bittersweet bit of news regarding the future of the franchise.
When the PlayStation 3 was released all those years ago on November 26, 2006, there was one game in the launch line-up that managed to make a name for itself in terms of scale, gameplay and a rather engaging storyline. That game was Insomniac Games’ title Resistance: Fall of Man.
The studio followed it up with the release of the sequel to Fall of Man, simply titled Resistance 2 and it managed to win over critics and fans alike. Yet, with Resistance 3 the studio apparently completed the story they had envisioned and it seems they are done with the project.
Well, they are done with the Resistance series as Insomniac Games have recently gone from being a studio that made games exclusively for Sony and are now looking to work on their first multi-platform game.
The break-up between Sony and Insomniac Games was not pretty with a war of words taking place not long after and many writing the Resistance series off as dead.
However, Mr. Price took to YouTube in order to allay any fears fans of the series may have had.
“We believe that Resistance has reached its logical conclusion in terms of the story that we wanted to tell.” He explained, before continuing, “However, that doesn’t mean that the Resistance franchise isn’t continuing – it’s already in the capable hands of Nihilistic and with Sony’s shepherding we know that it will continue to live on and expand.”
The news will be great for fans of the series, yet one has to wonder whether the original haunting, isolated atmosphere that the Resistance games became known for will be recaptured by the new studio at the helm of the series.
As for that it seems that Mr. Price and his crew at Insomniac knew just as much as everyone else when he concluded, “we’re excited as fanboys to see where it goes.”
The next instalment in the Resistance series is scheduled for release on the PlayStation Vita, so gamers can get a taste of what the future holds for the franchise.
