how come 18 wheelers don't have automatic transmission?

Because automatics waste fuel and they are an affront to us trucker's manhood! There is nothing cooler than floating gears (no clutch) with the Jake brake on!!  Only sissyfied companies that are afraid i'll tear out something and don't care how much fuel costs buys trucks with slush-o-matics. Ray

Some do, some don't. One of the reasons that alot still don't is because of people like Ray K. Some drivers seem to think that driving an automatic is insulting their manhood. They're also normally the ones that refuse to embrace new technology.

Anyone that has driven an automatic through Chicago rush hour will agree: they're a godsend.

A real trucker will try anything that will make their job easier, and make them more money.

Many of them do have full automatic transmissions and many of them have semi automatic transmissions....
