Restaurant Wedding... Do kids get charged the same?

I'm still looking for the restaurant for the reception and want it all buffet style. Since the kids take a chair each do they get charged the same fee as adults per plate?

What's the norm usually?

Thanks!

  1. most have age based pricing

    ages will vary

    Call the resturant and ask

  2. there is no "norm" on this.  It depends on the restraunts procedures.  Call and ask.  There are a few things you can do.

Adult and kids price on same buffett

Adult buffett and kids are ordered a plated meal all the same (best solution)

Adult buffett and small kids buffett

See what the restaurant will do for you!

  3. My venue charges 50% for ages 3-12 and children under three are free with a minimum purchase.

    Best wishes!!!!!!

  4. not usually. depending on the kids age should depend on the price. some places may not charge for kids under 5. they don't usually get a dinner. maybe just appetizers & pasta dish. or they may be charged 1/2 for ages 5-12. not sure if you have a buffett how that works.

  5. Hi,

this is Sophie and I am a wedding planner.

Buffet style is usually more expensive than plated dinner, but NEVER should a restaurant charge the full price for kids. If they do, walk away and find a restaurant they do not.

There should be an age limit, and you have to provide the number of your adults and your kids 3 days prior the event.

Be careful and do not let venues to take advantage of your situation!

  6. At the restaurant that I am considering, children 6 and under actually get an entirely different plate, and it is less costly than what the adults are getting.  Since the kids attending are either teenagers or under 6, not a problem.

  7. I think its cheaper for kids under 12 at most places.

  8. This will vary from place to place.

My venue charges 50% for children 12 and under.  Other venues I looked at charged full price for each seat used.

  9. Depends on the restaurant- for our wedding we paid less for kids as they had a different menu...Good luck!

  10. Usually a restaurant will charge about half price for children. Definately ask when you are calling around. Some places will even let the youngest eat for free (5 and under). Typically when a restaurant caters a buffet style meal, they will provide enough food for the headcount you give them. Some places may want to count 2 children as one person (ie 100 adults and 10 kids...tell the place 105 people). Other restaurants will charge you by the "pan" instead of headcount. (ie you order just the food you want...2 pans of 30 count chicken, 2 pans of meatballs...)Most places would not have a problem with that. BE SURE TO ASK !!Congrats on your wedding and good luck!

  11. It depends on the place, but for my wedding, (not sure the age limit) the kids were charged half the price of the adults. And I want to say kids 3 and under were free.
