  1. Via Emilia on 21st and Park - excellent food that is very reasonably priced.  Portions are very generous - split a pasta (they're delicious) and/or split an appetizer - the gnocco frito - a platter of Italian cold cuts served with fritters or the tigelle - a make it yourself ham and cheese on hot biscuits - both appetizers are delicious and both are filling enough to share.  We often split a few appetizers and don't bother with an entree.  Desserts are very good, too.  The place is new (they were on Park Avenue in a smaller place for years, they moved about two years ago) very pretty and very comfortable.  The service is good and you always feel welcome. No credit card.

On the Upper West Side, Pasha, on 71st and Columbus, a very good, very pretty and the food's good.

In the East Village on St Mark's and First Avenue is a lovely Italian restaurant called Paprika - AND, if you get there before 7pm, there is a prix fixe dinner for $13 - an appetizer and you can choose pasta or chicken or salmon -dessert and wine are extra - the food here is good and the waiters are very nice - one of the biggest bargains in New York

    Have a great evening!

  2. Peter Luger's Steakhouse is probably the best steakhouse in the world. Everyone loves it.

  3. I'd recommend Fluer de Sel, it's a wonderfully romantic French restaurant.  They also have 1/2 price Mondays, where wines from a particular region are 50% off.  I've been there a few times and it's always wonderful.

Just to rebut the suggestion of One if By Land, Two if By Sea - I was grossly dissappointed when we went there for my birthday.  We waiting a riduculously long time between courses and the food wasn't amazing.  I won't go back and can't recommend it to anyone.

  4. In Greenwich Village there is the most romantic restaurant with the greatest food. Its called One if By Land Two if By Sea. Very intimate, low lighting, perfect for an anniversary. Dont miss it
