Have you heard of such a thing?

I complained to the cook and he said he did it so that people will know they're real!

  1. I love them that way. When I make a lot of mashed potatoes to bring to a potluck dinner, I make most of it using powdered potatoes. I also cook a few unpeeled potatoes and then mash them into the dish with the powdered ones. Everyone who eats them says they are glad I used real potatoes instead of powdered ones They say they can tell because of the pieces of skin in there.

  2. A lot of restaurants do that. It's perfectly healthy and sanitary-- and yes, a way to prove that the potatoes are real and that they are decently fresh. Why would you complain about this anyway?

  3. What is the problem???  Potatoes don't need to be peeled.  Most of the vitamins are in the skin so this is a normal thing to do.  Next time ask so you know if they peel their taters or not when your order mashed at a restaurant.

  4. It's good for you!!!!

  5. If you'll look closely on the menu, they were probably described as "creamed potatoes". This means that they were prepared in their natural state.

  6. I depends on what type of potato it was.  If it was the red potatoes then that is common to serve them that way.  If it was the regular baking potatoes then that is just weird.   I personally use red potatoes in my mashed potatoes and leave the skin.  They serve it like that in a lot of restaraunts as well.

  7. Ah well, to peel or not to peel. Maybe you ordered a mashed baked potato. Did you enjoy your meal though? regards

  8. There is nothing wrong with unpeeled potatoes, as long as they are washed first.  There a many recipes that call for this.  And it's more healthy, as the skin holds a lot of vitamins.

  9. Lots of people cooks with the skins of the potato cause that is where you gets the real vitamins. It is not cause the potato is real but for health purposes. Although some likes the potato peeled.

  10. yeah i make them there SOOOO good there called smashed potatoes!!

  11. It seems more restaurants are doing this now.

Red Lobster and Olive Garden are two I know of.

Personally I think they are awful.

I want my mashed potatoes, peeled, cleaned and no lumps.

  12. Yes people do that all the time and it's good for you, and hey what else will tell you they didnt just pour those powdered babies out a box of Hungry Jack?

  13. Theres nothing wrong with mashed potatoes having the skins left on them.  Its usually the resturants preferance.

I worked at Chili's and they are a nationwide chain of resturants that kept the skins on.

  14. Yes, alot of restaurants do this.  Especially the finer ones.  I think it's wonderful and do it at home as well.

  15. The cook didn't need to leave the skins on, the taste would be a dead giveaway.

  16. It's not a stupid question.  Any question that you ask sincerely is never stupid.

The first time I got served mashed potatoes with the peels, I reacted the same way.  I don't like them like that but there are many people who do.

    (((hugs)))

  17. I have had mashed potatoes with the peeling...its not that bad actually!  Little bit of salt, pepper, butter, and sour cream - if your not watching your calories!

  19. That is the best way!  They taste so much better.

  20. That's actually quite a common way to prepare them.  Just means you were at a nice, classy place.  What's the big deal?  The skins are nearly tasteless and are full of vitamins.

  21. My favorite way, home style. It also depends on what kind  of potatoe, I use yukon gold, red bliss,  white ones.

  22. We have them like that all the time, they are the preferred choice around our house.

  23. yes i have.

  24. Yeah...a lot of places do that, they are really good that way.  Did you even try them?

  25. It also retains more vitamins.

  26. Many restaurants do leave the peelings on for the color and also the extra nutrients.  Give them a try you just might like it

  27. Some restaurants call them "smashed potatoes".  You'll just have to not order them at that particular restaurant anymore if you don't like them.

  28. That's true! When you mature, you will learn to accept foods that are more than smashed and whipped creamy white.

  29. They serve it that way, because it adds more flavor, you will know their real, and it adds extra nutrients to what your eating. A lot of restraunts are doing it these days. It's not that abnormal!
