Restaurants around London National Theatre?

Question

I want to know some good restaurants near the national theatre, but that isn't too pricey either, willing to pay around £40 for me and boyfriend. If possible, a restuarant that isn't Italian.

Try the Archduke Winebar. Its in the railway arches next to the festival Hall, five minutes walk or so from the NT (walk along the embankment and turn left when you pass the Festival Hall. They have  a salad bar downstairs, and a nice restaurant upstairs which should be in your price range, although it's years since I've been. I don't have a number for them but they'll be i the phone book. The Festival hall itself has a couple of nice eateries, but as I recall these are not great value for money.

This area is not over-blessed with restaurants, and £20 a head limits your choice.  The Oxo Tower is the best place in the area but is out of your price range.  RSJ is a decent French restauarnt with a good wine list but is also more than £20 a head.  The Thames Tandoori is a very basic but tolerable Indian place nearby, or if you venture down into The Cut there is a nice tapas place called Meson don Felipe, which does quite authentic food.  There is also a gastropub called the Anchor & Hope which many people like, though personally I have been disappointed by.

I'd say that the Meson don Felipe tapas bar is your best bet (53 the Cut, SE1 8LF), as the atmosphere is good as well as the food being pleasant.  The Archduke, mentioned by another contributor, is an excellent wine bar that does pleasant, simple food, and would be a good alternative.  It is also very near the National.
