Can any folks from Rome Italy or people who have lived there recommend a few moderately priced restaurants that serve food that the local people eat? Preferably in the area near the Coliseum.

Thanks!

  1. they are all good, just look at the menus for price. there is a really good buffet across the street from the spanish steps.enjoy!

  2. okay if you're at the coliseum & can see the forum in front of you and the arch to your left.... go behind it (pass the arch keeping the col to your left and arch to your right).... you will see an area where they are excavating an underground area....  right along that street (sorry don't remember the name) are some quaint not typically touristy spots to eat.  bring your own toilet paper though!!!

  3. I would not eat in old city, (Coliseum, Forum, the "Wedding Cake").  Walk in any direction 3 blocks away from old city and there is great food everywhere.  Make sure to order the wine as well.  If you do not want sparkling water, more than likely youll have to tell them you dont want sparkling water.  When I was there this summer, I ate as much pasta as I could and the white sauce with bologne (im sure thats how its spelled) was amazing.

The moral of the story is for great food you do not want to eat in tourist town.  The good news about Rome is that you can walk just about anywhere in the city without taking public transit (although I would grab a bus to St.Peters).

Jewish ghetto has great deli and I would say that the streets near the Piazza Vittorio Emanuele had great food.
