i know ive heard about them before on commercials... restaurant chains that you can call ahead to or get reservations online...

I know Outback & Applebee's does it, and I think Red Lobster too, Olive Garden does not do call ahead seating. Good luck!

For us locally Texas Roadhouse I know does it because my husband loves that palce and I enjoy the loaded sweet potatoe for a change.

There is a website, http://www.opentable.com, that has member restaurants with an online reservation system.  It is in a bunch of cities.  The bennie of the deal is that with every honored reservation you rack up points towards a voucher good for any of the restaurants that use the system.
