Resting Anderson is the right call believes Geoff http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Miller-c76318 – Cricket News Update
England’s national selector, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Geoffrey-Miller-c58870, has backed the decision of resting ace pacer, James Anderson, for the third and final Test match against the West Indies, to be played at Edgbaston, Birmingham, from Thursday, June 7,
2012.
Miller believes that selectors have made the right call by not picking Anderson for the third Test, a decision that will benefit the pacer.
Miller said, "http://www.senore.com/Cricket/JM-Anderson-c1705 will miss this Test as we look to manage his workload ahead of a busy period of cricket this summer and beyond, a decision which is in the best interests of the team and James himself.”
The national selector further said, “We have been made to work hard for our two victories so far and are delighted to have secured the series, however we know that we will need to continue to play some good cricket if we want a
third win against the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/West-Indies-c760 this week.”
Anderson was very eager to play the Test; however, the right-arm swinger showed signs of quad injury during the second Test and this may have prompted the selectors to pass their judgement.
Showing his disappointment towards the decision, Anderson said, “I believe I am fit to play - and while I am fit to play I want to play in every England game I can.”
England has already sealed the three match series, winning the first two Tests quite comfortably.
ECB is looking to preserve its key pacers, Stuart Broad and Anderson, by adopting a rotation policy to ease the pressure on them, considering the jam packed schedule that is to follow after the series. Nonetheless, Broad has been
retained for the Birmingham Test.
Graham Onions and Steven Finn are the two pacers, who’ll have to battle it out for the final spot in the playing XI. However, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c56013 may also give Broad rest and play the two youngsters in one team.
