The former http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Germany-c2904 international midfielder criticised Joachim Low’s decision to rest Mario Gomez in the quarter final.

Germany enjoyed a perfect start to their 2012 European Championships. They were drawn in the hardest group which included the likes http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Denmark-c2884. Despite facing European heavyweights, the Mannschaft finished
at the top of their Group and knocked out their rivals Oranje in the process.
Their performances in the group stages and the quarter-finals installed them as firm favourites to lift the trophy come July 1st.
In the quarter-final against http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Fernando-c13609 Santos’ side Mario Gomez was in sensational form he had
scored three of Mannschaft’s five goals in the group stages.
Resting the important did not have any negative impact on the match against the Ethniki but it did have effect on the in-form Gomez.
In their next fixture the Germans were expected to beat http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Italy-c2926 in the semi-finals convincingly but history suggested otherwise. They had never beaten the Azzurri in a major competition. The Bayern Munich striker’s performance was
extremely disappointing as the Mannschaft crashed out of the Euro 2012.
Dietmar Hamann reckons Joachim Low’s decision to rest Mario Gomez backfired, and that is when they threw away the chance to lift a trophy after 16-years.
“I think it was the moment Germany threw away their chance of becoming European champions for the first time in 16 years," he is quoted as saying in an interview.
In his opinion Gomez is the sort of player who needs regular game time to get him going. If he had played against Greece he would have scored most probably and the boost in confidence from that goal would have been huge. That confidence
should have been enough to trouble the Italians.
"Gomez is a striker who needs to play; He'd already bagged three goals in three group games and would quite probably have scored against the Greeks. And that would have set the Bayern star up perfectly for the semi-final against
Italy. Gomez is a streaky player, who, if he's on form, doesn't benefit from time off,”
Hamann was absolutely spot-on in his assessment of the player and the manager’s team selection. Even a half against Fernando Santos’ side would have been enough to fire the Germans through to the final.
